The Orchideeën Hoeve has its roots in growing orchids. In 1953, Thomas Maarssen Sr. bought his first orchids. Nowadays, you will frequently encounter the results of that activity in the park. You will encounter large numbers of the cymbidium, phalaenopsis, Venus slipper, and rare orchids in our orchid nursery, which covers approximately 3000 square metres.
The orchids in the nursery are at their most beautiful from December up to and including May.
Visit the orchid nursery to observe the manner in which orchids grow*, how our staff members take care of them, and how they ready them to be sold. In the mean time, feel free to ask our staff questions about your orchid. We will gladly share our passion for orchids and provide you with advice and assistance.
The orchid family is one of the largest on earth with its more than 31,000 species. There are thousands of rare species, in addition to the more familiar ones such as the phalaenopsis and the Venus slipper. The Orchideeën Hoeve deems it just as important to educate its visitors about unusual species of orchids as to preserve these species. The unusual species can be found in the nursery in front of the playground and in the orchid garden.
Fun trivia: almost all orchids in our nursery will be processed and sold in our store.
